Vera Health, a medical AI startup founded by French and Moroccan entrepreneurs Maxime Allouch and Taieb Bennani, has raised a $32 million Series A led by Threshold Ventures.
The round also includes Optum Ventures, the investment arm of UnitedHealth Group, Mantis VC and SV Angel, alongside existing investors Y Combinator and Gradient, Google’s AI-focused investment fund.
Founded in 2024 through Y Combinator, Vera has developed a clinical search engine that helps healthcare professionals find and assess medical evidence in seconds. The company says more than 800,000 healthcare professionals across 190 countries now use the platform, which is free for doctors and other medical practitioners.
According to the startup, adoption has been particularly rapid in Europe. The company says one in seven doctors in France and one in four in Spain and Italy now use the platform, largely through recommendations from colleagues. Bennani wrote in a recent LinkedIn post:
"Every month since June, Vera has been the world’s most downloaded app for clinicians. In September alone, it was downloaded more times than several of the biggest players in our space combined, companies with 100x more capital than us".
The new funding will expand Vera’s medical knowledge base, tailor its answers to national healthcare systems, and develop partnerships with medical associations, scientific publishers, and healthcare institutions.
Bringing medical research closer to clinical practice
Healthcare professionals face an ever-growing volume of medical research and clinical guidance. For example, PubMed added about 1.7 million citations in 2025 alone, or about 4,660 new records every day.
