Mistral AI announced Tuesday morning that it had acquired Vienna-based physics simulation startup Emmi AI, a strategic deal aimed squarely at Europe's industrial heartland.
The price of the deal was undisclosed. But sources placed the value close to €300M in a mix of cash and stock. That would top the estimated €24.3M valuation of Mistral's first deal for the infrastructure startup Koyeb in February.
Beyond the price tag, the deal represents a calculated bet by the French foundation model company that the next defensible wedge lies in simulating the physical world.
For Emmi AI, a startup that didn't exist 18 months ago, the outcome is remarkable. The Austrian company closed a €15 million Seed Round in April 2025 — Austria's largest of the year — led by Paris-based Serena, with 3VC, Speedinvest, and PUSH joining in.
